Now obviously we can only speak from a certain perspective in regards to places that we have only seen on the news etc, and lets not pretend that the media aren’t showing only the very best or very worst in showing the extreme examples of either end of the spectrum In the different parts of the world.
The strange thing is , in my opinion at least is that at first as in most cases…. People shrugged off the media, and the stuff that was being put out and did not listen to the information that was put before them in a very passive sort of … this is not going to touch or affect me sort of attitude.
And I suppose you can see why, for example as the exact numbers I do not have … 5 people in a very far away country have a weird bug and they aren’t well … yep cool it doesn’t sound like something that the entire globe should be panicking about.
Coronavirus has led to Panic Buying
Then there has been this sudden surge of panic, due to the nature of how the virus moves and multiplies the cases were literally doubling per day, and then very quickly the numbers have become big enough to get people to actually listen!!
What I have found most interesting is that people have very quickly gone into a , ME,ME,ME mentality … or that is what is being displayed by the media.
I mean, yes, I get it, people are buying in supplies in bulk to ensure that if the virus continues and we all end up in a lock down situation …. AS IN China, many parts of Europe then people feel more comfortable knowing that they have taken care of the things that are immediately most important to them and their little bubble.
The main thing with this virus that is spreading fear is the UNCERTAINTY, people need a degree of order and certainty in order to be able to function and be happy. We need re -assurance that things are going to be OK. When something like COVID-19 comes along and fucks up the recipe we quite rightly have a hard time dealing with it.
In the UK, think what has become apparent is that through the panic, businesses are closing, the economy is already suffering and the government are stuck between a rock and a hard place.
I said this morning, imagine being the leader of the country in this situation … you are in a very lose lose situation.
1. Lock everything down- to slow the development, lower the risk of people getting the virus and ease the pressure on everyone that is taking on the noble task of having to help people survive … IN MY OPINION – THE REASON THEY WOULD DO THIS – is that it is already apparent that we do not have the resources or infrastructure to be able to deal with this condition if the out break gets any worse.
2. We continue as normal and roll the dice… and potentially risk the above. How it will play out I am not really sure.
What I am confident in , is that it is certainly going to get worse before it gets better and that we may be riding this thing out for a good while.
