Ingredients needed:
- 500 grams of frozen edamame in pods (in the shell)
- ½ tablespoon toasted sesame oil*
- 1 small garlic clove
- ¾ teaspoon kosher or fine sea salt, plus more for the water
- ~1 tablespoon chili garlic sauce, to taste
- Optional garnish: Toasted sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions:
- Bring a large saucepan of water to the boil. Add the edamame and 1 teaspoon of fine sea salt. Boil the edamame until they become bright green and tender, which should take about 4 to 5 minutes. Once they are ready, drain them.
- Next, place the edamame in a bowl and add the toasted sesame oil and salt. Take a garlic clove and grate it into the bowl using a microplane. Gently toss everything together until all the edamame are evenly coated with the mixture, making sure to break up any clumps of garlic that may stick together. If desired, add chili garlic sauce to taste, starting with a smaller amount and gradually adding more if needed. Finally, transfer the edamame to a serving bowl and serve warm. Don't forget to provide a smaller bowl for the discarded pods.
Benefits of the Ingredients:
- Edamame is a good source of plant-based protein, fibre, and antioxidants. It can help improve heart health, regulate blood sugar levels, and support digestion.

Top Tips:
- When it comes to the sesame oil, go for toasted sesame oil as it has a much stronger flavour.
